Item Rarities

Space Faerie Brandishing an Electric Orb

What do They Mean ?

Rarities can reveal useful information about an item and inform all degrees of your acquisition and trading decisions. In the most general sense, rarities indicate the availability and origin of different items, from common items that are being produced and entered into circulation by official vendors, to rarer items that are given out in special circumstances, or have been retired and may never be produced again. As such, economic principles can dictate the value of discrete items. For example, the value of something produced by an active vendor is regulated chiefly by the rate that it is being entered into circulation. Items that are retired from production can only become more scarce and increase in value over time. Knowing what different item rarities mean is essential to any serious material enterprise.

Rarity Label Acquisition
0, n/a (No Rarity) Unknown. Items of this rarity have inconsistent acquisition methods, and can be freely discarded or traded.
1, 2 (Infinitesimal) The most scarce of the lowest quartile of items being created and sold into circulation.
3-9 (Abysmal) A distinct tier of consumption more scarce than Lesser items.
10-15 (Lesser) Most abundant of the lower quartile of items being created and sold into circulation. Similar in rarity to 85 through 100 and possessing its own quirky distinction.
16-84 Common The vast majority of items being created and sold into circulation.
85-89 (Rare - r##) Most abundant of the upper quartile of items being created and sold into circulation.
90-94 (Very Rare - r##) Items above this rarity up to 100 count toward distinctive consumption.
95-96 (Extra Rare - r##) A distinct tier of consumption above Very Rare.
97 (Super Rare - r97) A distinct tier of consumption above Extra Rare. At rarities 90-98, many prefer to disclose the rarity number instead of label because of a long-standing issue where the label for 97 was incorrectly showing as (Very Rare), and 98 as (Super Rare)
98 (Ultra Rare - r98) Most scarce of the upper quartile of items being created and sold into circulation. At rarities 90-98, many prefer to disclose the rarity number instead of label because of a long-standing issue where the label for 97 was incorrectly showing as (Very Rare), and 98 as (Super Rare)
99-100 (Mythical - r###) The most scarce of the highest quartile of items being created and sold into circulation.
101-109 (Special - r###) A large collection of items that are not produced in official capacity, but are generated and entered into circulation through various activities.
111-119 (Unique) Appears to function as miscellaneous categories for items that don't fall cleanly into any other rarity.
120 (Humming) Items with special use cases. Rarity numbers above 100 have little bearing on item abundance. Items grouped under Humming are still entering circulation, although very rarely.
130 (Chanting) Items with special use cases. Curiously, these items are no longer being produced by any means.
150, 155 (Shaking) Items with special use cases. Despite the higher rarity number, items grouped under Shaking are being entered into circulation at a more significant rate than Humming items.
160 (Unobtainable) Items that can only be obtained by administrative action. These are prizes manually given to select candidates from specific activities. Despite this exclusive acquisition method, they can be freely discarded and traded.
175 (Artifact - 175)
(no trade)
Items entirely bound to their owners. Artifact items cannot be discarded or traded in any way. Note the rarity number is missing an 'r'.
180 (Retired - r180) Items previously in the 1-100 range of rarities that are no longer being created or sold into circulation. Despite this, some retired items are still produced though a handful of sources.
181-189 (Anomalous) Items that are known to be obtainable, but have very elusive acquisition methods, sometimes being completely unavailable for long stretches of time or being disguised as other items sharing identical names with very minor differences. Anomalous items often run counter to typical storage and transaction methods, such as being no-trade, vanishing or transforming into less valuable items under certain conditions.
200, 250 (Relic - ###) Items obtained through extremely exorbitant venues, but otherwise with a theoretically unlimited supply. Artifact and Relic items cannot be discarded once obtained. However, Relic items can be traded and sold. Rarity 250 items are either no longer available at venues, or obtained by modifying rarity 200 items. Note the rarity number is missing an 'r'.
450 (Glowing) Previously distinguished a special category of consumables, but has since been populated with items obtained from codes tied to physical merchandise and regional promotions.
500 (Shimmering - 500) Premium items in circulation. Despite most of the premium economy being isolated from the rest, there are a handful of ways to acquire them without spending premium currency, most often through promotional events. Note the rarity number is missing an 'r'.
550 (Brilliant - 550) Identical to rarity 500 items. It is unknown why certain items are given 550 rarity. Note the rarity number is missing an 'r'.
700, 750 (MEGA RARE) Not produced in official capacity, but generated and entered into circulation in significant amounts though various sources.
800, 850, 875 (FANTASTICALLY RARE) Similar to MEGA RARE items. Entered into circulation though a handful of sources.

Invalid Item Rarities

While no official rationale exists as to the structure and assignment of rarities, conclusions can be drawn not only from sanctioned rarity numbers and labels, but also how and in what ways errors manifest in the rarity system.

Rarity Label Acquisition
(-1) (RARITY ) Seen with items mistakenly given this rarity, possibly during a trial where an algorithm was assigning rarities incorrectly. Note the blank space after 'RARITY'.
121-129 (Special) Sighted only as a result of administrative issuance where invalid rarities were arbitrarily set.
131-139 (Special) Sighted only as a result of administrative issuance where invalid rarities were arbitrarily set. Oddly, the label shares the same color as rarities 90-98. This is most likely a leftover from a brief time where the (Chanting) label was orange, and changed to disambiguate it from official production.
140 (RARITY 140) Sighted only as a result of administrative issuance where invalid rarities were arbitrarily set.
141-149 (Special) Sighted only as a result of administrative issuance where invalid rarities were arbitrarily set.
151, (152-154) (Shaking) Seen with items mistakenly given rarity 151 before being corrected. Theoretically, any rarity between 150 and 155 will have this label, but only 151 has been observed.
156-159 (Special - r###) Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Note the color difference between this rarity and rarities 101 through 109.
161-169 Never observed.
170 (RARITY 170)
(no trade)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Presumably, (Artifact) rarity was supposed to include 170, but was left out at some point. Similar to Artifact items, cannot be discarded or traded in any way.
171-174 Never observed.
176-179 Never observed.
190-199 (RARITY ###) Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised.
201-249 Never observed.
251-299 Never observed.
300 (Artifact - 300)
(Limit One)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Previously denoted quantity limits for items, but this was a quality independent of rarity while it used to exist. Most items with limits have become Retired rarity or simply had the limit removed.
301 (Artifact - 301)
(Limit Five)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Previously denoted quantity limits for items, but this was a quality independent of rarity while it used to exist. Most items with limits have become Retired rarity or simply had the limit removed.
305 (Artifact - 305)
(Limit 15)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Previously denoted quantity limits for items, but this was a quality independent of rarity while it used to exist. Most items with limits have become Retired rarity or simply had the limit removed.
310 (Artifact - 310)
(Limit 30)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Previously denoted quantity limits for items, but this was a quality independent of rarity while it used to exist. Most items with limits have become Retired rarity or simply had the limit removed.
311 (Artifact - 311)
(Limit 50)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Previously denoted quantity limits for items, but this was a quality independent of rarity while it used to exist. Most items with limits have become Retired rarity or simply had the limit removed.
312 (Artifact - 312)
(Limit 200)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Previously denoted quantity limits for items, but this was a quality independent of rarity while it used to exist. Most items with limits have become Retired rarity or simply had the limit removed.
313-349 Never observed.
350 (Trial) Given out during a test run of the premium economy. All traces of it have since been removed.
351-399 Never observed.
400 (Trial) Given out during a test run of the premium economy. All traces of it have since been removed.
401, 403, (402, 404-409) (Special - r###)
(no trade)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. Possibly a test of premium consumables. Did not actually register as being present in the inventory, but was listed and labelled at its location of use. Only 401 and 403 have been observed.
410-449 Never observed.
451 (Imbibed) Seen with items mistakenly given rarity 451 before being corrected.
452, (453-499) (Special) Seen with items mistakenly given rarity 452 before being corrected. Theoretically, any rarity between 451 and 499 will have this label, but only 452 has been observed.
501-509, (510-549) (Specimen - ###) For a brief time was assigned to large set items, which complete sets were redeemed at specific venues.
551-699 Never observed.
701-712, (713-749) (MEGA RARE) Seen with items mistakenly given these rarities. Theoretically, any rarity between 700 and 750 will have this label, but only 700-712 have been observed.

1501-1999 Never observed.
2000 (RARITY 2000)
(Limit One)(no trade)
Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised. The only item rarity observed with three labels.
2001-4999 Never observed.
5000 (RARITY 5000) Seen in an administrative inventory that was compromised.
